Buildcorp Wallaroos star Samantha Treherne has been named in the Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens squad that will compete in round one of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Colorado next weekend.
Treherne impressed Australian Sevens selectors playing for the Buildcorp Wallaroos in the two Test Series against New Zealand, where she played fullback for Australia and backed it up with a strong performance for Griffith University in the Aon University Sevens Series.
Originally from Melbourne, Treherne moved to Brisbane where she continued her Rugby career representing Sunnybank, before making her debut for Australia against England in 2017. In 2018 she represented Queensland in the inaugural season of Buildcorp Super W and played in both Test matches against New Zealand.
The Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens side will be ably led by both of its co-captains with Shannon Parry and Sharni Williams returning to full fitness to lead the squad as Australia commences its Olympic qualification campaign.
Qantas Australian Women’s Sevens Head Coach John Manenti said: “This is an exciting time for Samantha to get her first cap as an Australian Women’s Sevens player and she has been a great addition since we brought her into our setup.
“Round one is going to be a challenge for every team as we commence the HSBC Sevens World Series and look to get our campaign off to a strong start.
“The entire squad has been working really hard to make sure that we are getting every detail of our preparation right for round one and we are looking forward to playing Rugby again,” Manenti said.
Australia heads into the first round of the HSBC Sevens World Series without Emma Tonegato, Alicia Quirk and Emilee Cherry who are all recovering from off season surgeries.
