Buildcorp Wallaroos finalise coaching team ahead of monumental season.

Super Rugby Pacific will be full of action, featuring the best of the Southern Hemisphere

It will be the biggest season in Buildcorp Wallaroos history, and the team has received a timely boost after securing former Wallaby Scott Fava and Sunnybank coach Sione Fukofuka as assistant coaches for next year.

The 2022 schedule is already starting to fill out for the Buildcorp Wallaroos, with the recently announced Pacific Four Series as well as other home warm-up matches before the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, while the season draw is imminent for next season’s Buildcorp Super W.

The addition of Fava into the squad brings a plethora of professional experience to the table having played for the Wallabies in 2005 and 2006 as well as over 10 years in Super Rugby with the Western Force, Queensland Reds, NSW Waratahs and the Brumbies.

His insight into the game will be paired with his coaching experience as head coach of Norths Rugby Club in the Shute Shield.

“To join the Buildcorp Wallaroos ahead of such an important year for women’s rugby is a huge opportunity and I’m excited to bring what I can to this current group,” Fava said on his appointment as defense and collisions coach.

“Looking at the women’s game in Australia, there huge amount of talent across club rugby and Buildcorp Super W I have high prospects of what this team can achieve ahead of the World Cup next year.”

Fava will be joined by Sunnybank head coach Sione Fukofuka who will be in charge of the team’s attack and looking to make the most of some of the side’s key figures in the backline, including the likes of Arabella McKenzie and Maya Stewart who had outstanding campaigns in 2021’s Buildcorp Super W.

The side will look to enhance its expansive style of play using Fukofuka’s time with the Australian Sevens program to bring a level of flair to the XVs format of the game.

“It’s going to be a big couple of months ahead but we are hugely excited to get straight into preparations for New Zealand at the end of next year,” Fukofuka explained.

“Jay (Tregonning) and the team have put together a really good group for 2022 and the squad is in really good spirits as they start pre-season for Buildcorp Super W.”

“We have some key dates set where we can get to work next year and I’m looking forward to getting to know and working with the side.”
