RECAP: Canada have braved the conditions to defeat the Wallaroos 24-0 in Sacramento.

The game was delayed for over an hour after thunder and lightning in the area caused the match to be played behind closed doors.

As the game started, Australia couldn't find a way through their Canadian counterparts, who controlled the game through their pack.

They scored two tries in each half as the Wallaroos found themselves down to 13 thanks to two late yellow cards.

The attention turns to the USA next weekend, who were thumped by New Zealand to start the double header.

77': Aussies hunt for points

Canada 24-0: The Wallaroos will keep fighting for their first points even down two players.

They receive the penalty for taking the player out, with their momentum stopped as Faliki Pohiva goes off for a HIA.

Cecilia Smith's yellow card will remain just that as the review is completed.

74': Canada cross, Aussies down to 13

Canada 24-0: Canada seals the game as they cross under the posts, with the Aussies feeling further pain.

Kiki Idowu is the player who crosses from short, with Canada keeping the pressure on and finding a way through.

Cecilia Smith joins Britt Merlo in the bin after a high shot in the build up, with the centre yellow-carded as the tackle is reviewed to see if it will stay a yellow....

71': Merlo sent for ten

Canada 17-0: Britt Merlo pays the price for one too many penalties against the Wallaroos and sits for ten.

It comes as the Canadians launch into the 22, turning back to their rolling maul.

66': Canada in the corner

Canada 17-0: Canada finally finds their way through as Asia Hogan-Rochester dives over in the corner.

The Aussies stop the rolling maul but the Canadians remain patient and they find the winger unmarked for the try.

62': Canada in control

Canada 12-0: The second half has been all Canada as they dominate territory with little to show for it score-wise.

The Wallaroos again force the mistake with some physical defence, getting the feed to the scrum 15 metres out.

58': Lineout struggling

Canada 12-0: As expected, the lineout throwing is struggling in the conditions.

The Wallaroos have watched back-to-back throws hit the deck, unable to exit their half but a timely scrum helps their case.

55': Australia holding on

Canada 12-0: A huge stand from the Wallaroos as they keep turning over the Canadians.

The Aussies twice force the mistake on their goal-line as Canada hunts for its third.

50': Changes coming for both sides

Canada 12-0: Australia have made a double sub, with Piper Duck and Waiaria Eliis on for Michaela Leonard and Nicole Ledington respectively.

Meanwhile, Canada have brought on defending World Rugby Player of the Year Sophie de Goede

47': Stewart avoids a card

Canada 12-0: Maya Stewart is very lucky not to receive a card for a high shot on Justine Pelletier.

Stewart clatters Justine Pelletier high but luckily, the referee find mitigation with the drop in body height but geez that looked certain to be a yellow...

43': Costly mistake invites pressure

Canada 12-0: The Wallaroos let the Canadians off the hook after they failed to find touch from a penalty.

It takes a great ruck streal from Sam Wood to save them, winning the penalty.

HALF TIME: CANADA 12 - 0 AUSTRALIA
39': Buisa extends Canada's lead

Canada 12-0: Canada have extended their advantage right before the break through Pamphinette Buisa.

Justine Pelletier creates the chance with a nice snipe at ruck time to break open the Aussies, with the back-rower there to crash over the phase later.

36': Australia hold on

Canada 5-0: Australia twice come up with the goods at maul time to stop Canada.

The first time is very illegal and they are penalised but the second is legit as it comes.

34': Aussies forced to dig deep

Canada 5-0: The Aussies will have dig deep late in the half as they give up a penalty inside their 22.

Canada have struggled to find the line with their kicks for touch, letting the Wallaroos off the hook minutes earlier.

29': Canada scrum in control

Canada 5-0: The Canadian scrum is living up to the reputation as they establish dominance.

There's been several penalties (short ot full arm) against the Aussies, with their defence holding up currently.

25': Miller sparks Aussies out of nowhere

Canada 5-0: Desire Miller creates a break out of nothing after she blocks the grubber in behind, racing 50 metres on the counter.

The ball spreads to the other wing to Maya Stewart, with the flyer brought down and dropping it close to the line.

23': Wallaroos hold tough in defence

Canada 5-0: Canada are starting to find their groove in attack but not their way through the Aussies.

The Canadians get inside the 22, with great counter rucking forcing the penalty for holding on.

19': Canada cross for first try

Canada 5-0: Canada have opened the scoring as they find the line through Julia Omokhuale.

The Wallaroos can't stop the rolling maul legally but Canada still find the chalk through their lock.

17': Canada march down in search for opener

Canada are now on a roll as they march inside the Wallaroos 22 and onto their goal-line.

A trio of penalty advantages has drawn the ire of the referee as Canada kicks for the line for the five-metre lineout.

14': Wallaroos camped inside Canada half

Samantha Wood's box kicking is giving Australia all the field position early.

The Wallaroos are rightfully leaning on her boot and it's camped Canada inside their half.

A timely ruck penalty allows Canada to clear into Australia's half.

8': Aussies embracing the grind

The Aussies have definitely adapted to the conditions better so far.

Canada's fast ruck speed hasn't yet translated to the wet conditions, while the Aussies are wisely playing of Sam Wood's box kick.

Australia gets the penalty and enters Canada's 22 for the first time this gane, with the ball dislodged after a nice hit.

4': Soap ball

This is near impossible to hang onto the ball.

Both teams are coughing up the pill as the drenched pitch is taking its toll. There's puddles everywhere as the Aussie scrum is holding up early.

KICK OFF - Slip and slide

We're on!

There's no spectators allowed in the ground, deemed a safety issue.

Canada kicks off and geez these are some tough conditions to play in as the Aussies keep deep but are pinged for going off their feet after tackling the Canadians in their 22.

Australia is in their First Nations away kit which is white (for now) and green.

PRE GAME:
1:00 pm - Looking good to play

This could be the ultimate jinx but it seems like we're good to go for 1:14 pm.

They'll be no anthems and teams will get straight into action

12:40 pm: Updated time

Alright so 1:14 pm is the new time we are aiming for.

There's another storm cell around, with the cut off time at 3:10 pm to start by.

12:05 pm: Updated time

Now looking at 8:05pm kick off local time (1:05pm aest) pending no more lightning in area

11:55 am: Players back off

Yep, I'll take the blame for that.

As soon as it seems like we're getting on, reports from the crowd that there's a massive flash and loud clap of thunder as the players are set to stay in their changerooms.

11:50 am: Warm ups about to begin

Good news as the teams are preparing to head out onto the field to warm up.

A reminder that if any lightning or thunder is within the area, there must be at least a 30 min gap between strikes for play to resume.

11:30 am: Latest update

If the lightning stays away, kick off will take place at 12:35 pm AEST

Looking at the radar, it's short odds for another delay.

11:20 am: Kick off delayed

The kick-off is officially delayed as thunderstorms close in on the stadium and the surrounding area.

The updated time is to be confirmed, with players still waiting to warm up.

11:00 am (AEST) Weather warning

Welcome to Rugby.com.au's coverage of the Wallaroos v Canada in Sacramento.

Conditions are horrid, with the earlier game between NZ and the USA ending in torrential rain as the radar only looks worse.

Reports from the ground suggest there's lightning in the area, so fingers crossed it stays away.
