Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp is proud of how the side matched Fijiana physically, setting up a dominant 43-7 win in Suva.

The Australians opened their season in style, taking down the Fijian side in Suva, the first Test the two teams have played in Suva.

It continues their winning run after taking out WXV 2 to finish the year, with Yapp pleased at the continual growth.

"We were really pleased with the scrum, all the props did really well and we had some debutantes there, and they stepped up and did a really good job,

"I thought the way Layne tried to keep the tempo of the game high was exactly what we wanted.

"... I think for us the positive was the opportunity to give six new players in the set up with the Wallaroos, we've seen them perform really well at Super W so we need to see whether they can make that next step up and so it was great to see...We were a bit frustrated in parts of our game, but it was our first hit out, and on the whole, the girls stepped up well."

The win was far from perfect, with two big injury concerns for the team heading into the Pacific Four series.

Maya Stewart went off early with a non-contact knee injury, quickly followed by Bienne Terita after hurting her hamstring scoring her second try of the game.

Both will head for scans when the side returns to Sydney on Sunday, leaving them long odds to play against New Zealand in Newcastle next week.

“They’re both really popular players and it’s always really sad at this point, when we know we’re going to a World Cup, anyone who gets injured, everyone just feels for them,” Yapp said.

“We’re hoping it’s not too bad and we can see them both back out there. It’s definitely put a bit of a dampener on it for the players and the staff, but hopefully it’s not too serious.”

It comes with Georgina Friedrichs on the sidelines with a finger injury, missing the match.
